Marek Sobczyk1955

(Born in 1955 in Warsaw) Painter, theorist, and designer. He is the author of the Manifesto of Gravitational Cinema (2012) and publisher of MAMMAL. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1975 to 1980. Between 1983 and 1989, he was a member of the artistic collective Gruppa and co-founder of the magazine Oj dobrze już. Since 1989, he has led the "School of Art" project (until 2000 together with Jarosław Modzelewski). Since 1990, he has worked in graphic design and typography (from 1990 to 2004 together with Piotr Młodożeniec under the Zafryki design studio). He conceived and co-edited the publication Andrzej Wróblewski Unknown (1993). He has also published Course in Abstraction (1996) and Course in Sublimation (2006), the latter based on a year-long lecture series at the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw. He is currently preparing Course in Psycho/Soma/Socio-Analysis. In recent years, he has devoted much of his work to artistic practices that "situate" artistic activity, summarized by the concept "Art Comes First." Since 1979, he has been developing the project "Brain Research in Poland." Since 1998, he has worked on "Table: What? Who? – With What? With Whom?"; since 1999, "SexReligionPolitics"; since 2002, "Museum in Quotation Marks"; since 2004, "Establishing a New Social Movement as a Work of Art"; since 2006, "Psycho/Soma/Socio-Analysis" (Course in Psycho/Soma/Socio-Analysis); since 2008, "Monuments of Discourses"; since 2009, "Around the Word Atheism"; and since 2012, he has been working on the film project "Wisława" together with Mateusz Falkowski.
